Riding Along the Border

Coming from the IDF facility we rode along the Israeli border with Lebanon.  These photos were taken out of a moving vehicle, but you can probably get the idea!

Our ride!

Look carefully past the fence and the barb wire and you can make out a white United Nations armored security vehicle that was driving along the border.

Razor wire!  Sharp!

There are essentially two sets of fences.  In the foreground is the Israeli fence (the yellow gate).  In the background is the Lebanese fence.  In between is the area patrolled by the United Nations.  You can see a 55 gallon drum, painted blue, and stamped "UN" marking what is a sort of "no-man's" land.

The UN marker

The Palestinian flag flying in Lebanon

Our guide from the kibbutz (see post below) seemed to indicate that this is a "fake" village.  No one really lives here, but people are here in the daytime farming the land.  If you look closely, the buildings do look empty.

Another view of the village and the Palestinian flag.

A watch tower on the Lebanese side of the border.  If you enlarge the photo and look very carefully, above the white building directly above the watch tower, you can see a small yellow flag.  It is the flag of Hezbollah.

Using Google Translate on my phone, the sign supposedly reads in both Arabic and Hebrew - "They are going to Jerusalem.  The eternal capital of Palestine."
