Abraham's Gate

Just a stone's throw from Tel Dan is an ancient mud brick gate known as Abraham's Gate.  While not believed to have been built by Abraham, the father of the Jewish people, it is thought to have been built around 1750 BCE.  It is called Abraham's Gate because Abram (as he was known before God changed his name to Abraham) is thought to come here to rescue his nephew Lot.  The city was then known as Laish.

The gate was first excavated by archaeologists in 1979.
