Cana

The town of Cana (also known as Kefr Kana), famous in the Scriptures as the place where Jesus performed his first miracle, is located a little over 4 miles from Nazareth, the city of his boyhood.  Unfortunately, like many of the historic Biblical sites in Israel, there are multiple locations who believe they are the "true" location of Cana; including three other sites in Israel, and one in Lebanon (which apparently is a popular tourist destination in times of peace).

The second time Jesus came to Cana he was met by a government official whose son was sick and dying in the town of Capernaum (see previous post), about 18 miles away.   The official begged Jesus to come right away and heal his son, but instead, Jesus just spoke the word of healing, and the boy recovered.

The Cana Catholic Wedding Church

The front door

Quiet!  Please!

The little wedding chapel

Another church seen over the wall of the Cana Wedding Church.

The Holy Church of the Red Roof?
This shot is awfully busy, but I thought it offers a different perspective

Not sure what this building is, but the yellow & white flags are usually associated with Vatican City, and/or the Pope.  I thought the light, and the flowers, made for a pretty cool photo.

The Melkite Greek Catholic Church

The sun going down in an alley across the street.

This is the road behind me, when I was taking the picture of the alley above.  I liked how the sun played off the buildings.

The sign over a wine seller's shop.  Get it?
Every historical Biblical site also has it touristy side.

This sign was really, really faded so I had to up the contrast.  A lot!  But I couldn't pass it by.  Who wouldn't want a cup of Joe from The First Miracle Coffee Shop?!?

A minaret from a nearby mosque.  The glow sticks are a nice touch!
